             A Day No Pigs Would Die
             A Day No Pigs Would Die is about a boy named Robert. One day rob was trying to help his neighbor, Mr. Tanners cow have a calf. But the cow, Apron gave rob a beaten. Robs parents were very concerned because rob had cuts and bruises. His mom and dad cleaned rob up and put him to bed. About a week rob was feeling better and could do his chores.
             Rob's dad killed pigs for a living. Rob says his dad smells like stale death except on Sundays when rob and his family go to shaker meetings. Rob didn't really like living as a shaker because of all the rules.
             One day Mr. Tanner came over to robs house with a little pig. Mr. Tanner said it was a gift for helping Apron. Robs dad refused to take the pig since rob was just doing a neighborly deed. But Mr. Tanner said it was for robs birthday then and that he was sorry for giving to rob late. Rob named her pinky. He was in love with her when he first saw her. Rob's dad said that rob would have to build a pen for pinky to sleep in.
             Rob and pinky had lots of fun together and were best friends. He took care of her. Rob entered pinky into a competition at a fair. Mr. Tanner's cows entered one too. Rob went with Mr. Tanner to the fair. Pinky won first place for best-behaved pig. When rob got home he first told his dad that pinky won.
             Robs dad told rob that he was sick and old and that he would die. Rob's dad said that he had to take the role of the man in the house and had to grow up.
             Rob tried to breed pinky with Mr. Tanner's boar, named Samson. Pinky did not have a litter of pigs and rob soon found out that she was barren. Pinky got bigger and too expensive so robs dad said that pinky had to be put to sleep. Rob's dad killed pinky. Rob was very sad but understood why pinky had to die.
