Steriods

Anabolic steroids are natural male hormones that build up muscle mass and increase weight gain. Other team mates and even some coaches pressure and persuade their high school athletes to use steroids for higher levels of competition and to also induce strength. Professional athletes are role models and idols for these young athletes. "Teenagers looking up to those elite athletes whose muscles ripple with steroid-enhanced power, are picking up some dangerous training tips [...] (Manning)." Once the young athletes see their idols taking steroids they then want to take them also. Consequently, all high schools in the United States should test their athletes for steroid use because they are unfair, they cause behavior changes, and they are dangerous. First, all high schools should test their athletes for steroids because they are unfair. Taking steroids is unfair to those athlet

Taking the athletes natural ability and becoming the best athlete from what they were given naturally will only allow them to succeed better in that sport. Another reason all high schools in the United States should test their athletes for steroids because they cause behavior changes. When taking steroids, an athlete may experience a large amount of anger. Steroid can cause a lot of damage to the users body. Shrinking of breasts, changing of menstrual cycle, balding of hair, and deepening of the voice are effects women users experience (Goldburg). Steroids cause the teenager to be angry, sometimes at those they love, or even towards total strangers. No one should teach young athletes that in order to become a good athlete, you must take steroids. Taking steroids is certainly considered cheating. Along with behavior changes, steroids are very dangerous to the body. If all the athletes did not take steroids, then every athlete would have about the same strength and the competition would be a lot tougher. Using illegal anabolic steroids can not only scar your body, but also scar your future. If a young boy is using steroids it may painfully enlarge his sex organs (Goldburg). Meanwhile, safe and legal supplements such as protein drinks and creatine will help build muscle to become a stronger and smarter athlete. Athletes who abuse steroids can become violent quickly. Finally, all high schools should test their athletes for steroids because they are dangerous.
