Freshman Essay for College admissionWhen I go into New York City on a crisp autumn morning and bring a few pieces of charcoal, a watercolor kit and a sketchbook, the urban atmosphere stimulates my creativity and natural inner urge to design, particularly fashion designs. My floor is often strewn with anything from a detailed sketch of a chiffon dress to a quick outline drawn on a paper napkin. While I am considering fashion design as a vocation, I realize that the consummation of that dream will best be served by various factors outside of the world of art and design. In the XYZ Gardens with the famous XYZ Boats that XYZ author wrote of in a book I read as a child, my watercolors and charcoal will have a place by my side as they did in New York, but I will be inspired by a vastly different type of urban environment. Art therapy is an example of how I might integrate my love of art and my fascination with psychology into a career. The Historic XYZ area, XYZ, XYZ and even the XYZ are places which fill my mother's memories. In any aspect of the arts, whether in fashion or the fine arts, the understanding of human motivation and the human psyche will be a critical element for success. I fell in love with the cultural diversity of the city. When I visited the university, I considered a different way I might eventually integrate my love of the arts into a unique career. n being will be more important to career success than focusing on arts exclusively. A broad range of liberal arts subjects may present new sets of possibilities for me through related or even completely different areas of study. I'd like them to fill my memories as well. A better understanding of human behavior will help me in any career, not just a fashion career. I've thought of wanting to become a psychotherapist. The psychology curriculum interests me tremendously. I am filled with excitement at the prospect of enrolling at XYZ University. To have access to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Harvard University Art Museums while I study a broad, liberal arts curriculum at my mother's Alma Mater would be a privilege that would enrich my life.
