The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn don

Twain's major theme in the novel is man's inhumanityto man. He develops this theme through the inhumane actions of Pap towardHuck, the dishonesty of the King and the Duke toward the Wilkes girls, andthe betrayal of Jim for money by the King and the Duke. Twain uses the inhumane actions of Pap toward Huck to help developthe major theme of his novel. "' I'll take you down a peg before I get done with you'" (20). This quote shows how man is inhuman to other men, even if they are related and supposed to love each other. Pap acts malevolently towards Huck, even though Huck is his son. Not only is Pap mentally abusive toward Huck, but he is also physically abusive toward him. "But by and by pap got too handy with his hick'ry, and I couldn't stand it. I was all over welts"(24). The way that Pap treats Huck shows the inhumanity of man toward other men and helps to develop the major theme of the novel. The dishonesty of the King and the Duke toward the Wilkes girls also help to develop the major theme of the novel. The Duke and the King take their cruelty to another level because they steal and lie to the Wilkes girls, who are left all alone without parents. "And not sell the rest o' the property? March off like a pass

On the river, Huck didn't have to worry about anything except people finding Jim. They plan cruel and inhumane things to do to the girls when the girls have done nothing to deserve it. These two living conditions were not very similar; there were a few similarities that can be found. However difficult each situation, the easiest and best situation is usually the most apparent one. Even though Huck bends the rules a bit, he eventually grows to like living with the widow. Huck learns about the Duke and the King'sactions from a boy in town. There were many rules that Huck had to follow for both the widow and for his father. The widow expected Huck to go to school, wear clean clothes, sleep in his bed, and go to church. Huck thought that it was fun, but he started to get sick of being locked up for long periods of time. The Duke and the King are cruel to their fellow man, Jim, even when him andHuck are so good to them. He also had to worry about the king and the duke for a while. He began to get sick of his father getting drunk and beating him.
