The factors that contribute for gender inequality are as follow : sexism, lack of qualifications, the glass ceiling and networking. Of all of this four factors I consider sexism and lack of qualifications the most important to discuss because those are the most common ones in any society. According to the book ''sexism is an ideology that maintains that women are inherently inferior to men and therefore do not deserve as much power, prestige and wealth as men.''(p.228 Sociology for the 21st century). This means that us women, are not capable of getting a high-level position because we are consider incapable to accomplish all the expectations a certain position requires. Also when we work our income is consider extra money for the household, while the men's has to pay all the bills of the house. In the book they also mention lack of qualifications as one of the possible causes to gender inequality. This means that for various reasons women cant ever have the same work experience or qualifications as men. All of these is because we women, have to fulfill different roles at the same time. We have to be a wife, a mother, have a job and on top of everything we have to fulfill every role within the status that has been assigned to us whether we wish to have it or not or the ones we have earned through our life. In the book they also consider the term glass ceiling as another factor of gender inequality. They refer to this term as, ''a subtle and often unconscious discrimination within organizations that prevents women from reaching a higher and better paying positions for wish they are qualified.'' (p.239 sociology for the 21st century). This means that people unconsciously are trying to put barriers to women with the only purpose of not letting them be at the same level as men.
