Eating Disorders

             Over 30 years ago eating disorders were rare, and got very little publication, or advertisement. Today eating disorders can be seen in magazines, websites, even the daily news we hear about young girls who have died from these disorders. Why has the incidence of these increased so dramatically? Why have so many young women, and some men, developed bizarre eating habits to the point of endangering their emotional and physical health? Most importantly what are these disorders, what are the causes of them, and what are the signs that someone may have this disorder?
             To some women, being thin becomes the most important thing in life regardless of what it might do to their health. ""Being thin became the most import thing in my life," admitted 34-year-old Ann. Her fear of being overweight led to a greatly restricted diet and the loss of 60 pounds in a short time. "She became skin and bones and looked as if she had come out of a concentration camp," her husband said.1" Why do women go to these extremes?
             Because of today's society magazines, say you should be thin, and often sport the thinnest sexiest women in the world on the cover, and through out the magazine, weather the article is actually about the woman in the magazine or not, they are there, giving women the image that they should look like them. 90 percent of TV, and movie actors and actresses are thin as can be, and have more make up them than clothes, and it makes it hard for the women not to want to look, and want to be like them, when they see their boyfriends, or husbands gawking at them and putting their pictures and posters up (mainly teenage boys, but some men). The internet stresses the same message almost constantly as you visit websites that have pictures of beautiful thin women on every single page, or handsome young men.
