The Articles left the country too weak and vulnerable in a time when a strongcentralized government was needed. The Constitution, however, gave national Congress the power to tax inArticle I but still left some power to the states. It continues to be the basis ofour government over two hundred years later. Another problem the Articles faced was its lack of an executive branch. Thecreators of the articles were still in fear of what happened with King George III anddreaded another tyrant. The Senate offered small states the same representation while theHouse gave the populated states the representation they deserved. At theConstitutional Convention, all this fear was put behind and a strong executive branch ledby the president was erected. There limited control still left the states with the majority of the power. They gave each state two votes in the Senate and divided the House of Representativesup by population.
