Children need contact with people; both close and personal contact with adults, and with children of their peer group. We first were taught about Jeanie- a child who was found at the age of 13, after living a life in isolation.
What about meeting people, marriage, procreation? If we eliminate intimate contact, how are people going to meet. While understanding that their situations were of utmost torment and neglect, the same concept can be applied to the idea of transferring the classroom from schools to at home on the computer. And if they will become the truth of reality, what will be able to be beyond that into the next future.
If we eliminate the contact between students, we are creating people who will not know how to effectively relate to one and other when their schooling is completed.
Finally, we learned about Isabelle. or could it? The possibilities of technology seem endless, and yet scary at the same time. She had brief periods where she was shifted from foster home to foster home. Will marriages become arranged? Will all of society down to its very core be dictated by technology?
It is scary to think that this may be where the future is headed. She eventually gained human characteristics, and at age 14 she was functioning at a 6th grade level. Of course, we can create many jobs that can be completed online, but what about healthcare? That will never be a career field that will be able to be handled over the computer…. She had no language skills, and no developed human characteristics.
