There are many different attitudes regarding mainstreaming. Some parents of children without learning disabilities feel that mainstreaming hinders the productivity of their “normal” child’s development with in the classroom, as well as the numerous costs (Koch, Students with Disabilities 3). Supporters of mainstreaming feel that all learners will benefit

that we take each child’s education seriously and work toward helping them work to their full potential. Therefore, this is a very difficult task for a teacher or administrator, they need to ensure that both the special needs students and the students without special needs are permitted to learn and produce to their full potential in the classroom. I can see where the angry opponents might think that children with severe cognitive disabilities that prohibit them from achieving the same academic goals as regular education students should not have placed upon them unrealistic academic expectations. There are also many ways that administrators could encourage this kind

of interaction. I feel that if teachers are going to isolate the mentally disabled student from the rest of the class, then they just might as well be in their own separate classroom. However, I fail to see and question how this is justification for the whole segregation of the child with special needs. Their role is pivotal in the placements of students
with disabilities.
Contrary to popular belief many people are opposed to mainstreaming. If students with special needs are going to be placed into mainstreamed classrooms, then they should be members of the classroom that get to interacts and participate in every event without being excluded from anything. They will also become more familiar and adapt to the diverse society in which they are inhabiting. When the standard student gets the chance to interact with a child that is mentally disabled, they will have the opportunity to learn from them, and vice versa.
As a future educator, I believe that the administrator is the central figure in determining a successful climate for every student.
Mainstreamed classrooms are becoming an important feature in the education of special education students.
