Reflection and Revision
This semester of English 111 has forced me to focus on my writing more in-depth than any other class I have taken. I have always taken my writing lightly without ever really trying too hard. These past few months I have not changed much in terms of my writing process but rather the way in which I approach a writing assignment. I have learned that each different writing situation requires a certain amount of preparation. Or maybe that there is no one right way to approach a writing assignment, that each situation calls for a different style. I feel that my personal best piece of writing this semester was the first short essay. It required me to watch a movie and compare and contrast the writing style of the writer portrayed in the film with that of my own. It was easy for me to watch a movie and observe the writing style of the writer because the style is reflective of the writer's personality. This assignment was an exception to most of the other writing assignments in that I struggled with finding the best approach to prepare for the essays. In the past with writing assignments it was easy to get an assignment and churn out an essay of the required length in a short amount of time. All it took was a look at the assignment s
Also, I wanted to make the intro and conclusion stronger and make the body reflect the points made in the intro. For the collaborative essay I couldn't be a procrastinator on account of how I was working in conjunction with the schedules of my group members. I only touch on how my style is different in paragraph 4 and paragraph 5 is so short that it would be easy to just add it onto paragraph 4 to make it stronger. At this point I thought of the obvious explanation that not all of these writers used the same approach. In paragraph 7, sentence 4, 'she is unique. While searching for a subject to interview it became clear that there are so many different types of writers. In paragraph 2, second sentence, 'I found this confusing. In my writing inventory from the beginning of the year I stated how I am a big procrastinator. At the time I was under the impression from previous English classes that your thesis was always the first sentence in your essay. In this essay, I began to realize that this is not always true. I am not sure about what you commented in paragraph 4, sentence 5. Your comments tell me to provide more information about this point, but I was writing this essay with my audience being someone who has read Brannon's essay, "Nothing but the Truth". In my revision I can just cut out the part about not being similar to me.
