But he has to make a living and earn money for his basic needs. How much I knew English when I first came to the USA? How I felt? Do not ask me! I knew almost nothing, and I underwent a real 'cultural shock" at the beginning. I felt like being in an ocean of silence and that feeling depressed me very much. having similar experiences with the different cultures and the language barrier. That's the case with most foreigners in the U. So I started my carrier at "Texas Instruments". With my simple vocabulary it was really difficult to communicate with my colleagues and understand the tasks that I was assigned. At first one feels disappointed, insulted, embarrassed, confused and finds it strange to live in this country. Some people tried to convince me to be patient because learning a language takes some time and if I communicate every day with people, it is good enough to learn it. Furthermore, people around laughed, talked, exchanged ideas in a language that was still strange to me and made it impossible to feel one of them.
