Emotional Intelligence
It is still a common way of thinking that a high intelligence quotient means a successful career. But according to Daniel, Goleman the intelligence quotient contributes at best only 20 % to the factors that determine a person's life success. Which means that at least 80 % are determined by other forces like luck or social class and emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a relatively new concept so it can't be said yet how much an impact it has on life success. But from what scientist know so far it has at least as much an impact as the intelligence quotient, if not more. This assignment deals with the question what emotional intelligence is as well as why it is important and the impact it has on our life. "Emotional Intelligence is the ability to sense, understand, and effectively apply the power and acumen of emotions as a source of energy, information, creativity, trust and connection." Someone who is emotionally intelligent knows which emotion he or she is feeling and why, knows how to manage his or her feelings and how to motivate him- or herself. They recognize emotions in others and are able to handle relationships.
1 Understanding OthersTo understand others a person has to be able to sense others' feelings and their perspective. It might be the case that in some countries a person who behaves like someone with a highly developed emotional intelligence, will have disadvantages as it is not usual in that society to do so. 3 Self-MotivationSelf-motivation means that people are able to navigate emotions in favour of a goal, which "is essential for paying attention, for self-motivation (. 1 Emotional Competence Framework The meaning of these competencies are as follows:3. People with this competence "accurately read key power relationships, detect crucial social networks, understand the forces that shape views and actions of clients, customers, or competitors and accurately read situations and organizational and external realities". 2 CommitmentCommitment is the "aligning with the goals of the group or organization". 8 Team CapabilitiesTeam capabilities means to create "group synergy in pursuing collective goals".
