Policing the World in One Day

Of all countries in the world, Canada has the most of it. It is spread across Canada but seems to centre itself in major metropolitan areas. It helps make each of us, in our own way, different, but at the same time, at home. It is cultural diversity. Canada is considered to be the most diverse country in the world. Here we do not discriminate against colour, race, language, religion, culture, nationality, ethnicity, class, occupation or education. Everyone is welcome, and treat everyone equally. Since the mid 1800's, Canada has accepted well over 13 million immigrants from just about every part of the world. Of course with these people, come many different cultures, all of which we accept. Because of this, Canada is considered to be a heterogeneous society, which means we disregard all differences in our people. One of the most culturally diverse areas is the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughn, and Woodbridge. Some people would say that you could divide these individual cities into different cultures, and in some cases that is true. For example Brampton is hugely popular for its West Indian, Pakistani, Guyana's, Sikh, and other Middle-Eastern cultures. Markham can be noted fo

r its strong population of Asian immigrants. Similarly, Woodbridge is popular for the strict population of Italians. For example, in the Sikh religion, it is customary that all males carry a Kirpan. Although it sounds perfect, it's not that easy. For example I was asked to guard a meeting of the soldiers of Brazil. Also a very popular, but often violent event which occurs every four years is the World Cup of Soccer where it seems most European and South American countries, who normally are friends, seem to turn on each other, arguing, debating and even fighting over which country's 20 chosen people are better at kicking a ball down a field. Some people here do not even believe me when I say that in a class of 30, in high school, usually 4-5 students are Caucasian. Now, imagine you are the officer on duty who is called to deal with a fight between two fans. There are often conflicts between different groups for different reasons. Cultural Diversity is something that is slowly, but surely dominating Canada, and once we become police officers, it will be an issue in which, some of us, more than others will deal with. Often I am asked to guard cultural events to protect them against attacks from other cultures. It is amazing how different both areas are. It seems ridiculous but try flying a French or Brazilian flag out the window of your car, while driving down Highway 7 through Woodbridge. When I'm in the GTA, I have a job as a security officer. I come from Mississauga, where it seems like each culture from around the world was put into a big bowl and mixed up, then spread out across the city.
