The war is a competition between countries. He is about to jump into a lake when Gene shook the branch. While Finny is a great athlete, he does not have as much intelligence as Gene does, and Finny envies that. Gene realizes that his best friend is not recovering well at all. Jealousy was the main factor that was reflected from World War II. The war required people to join the military and many boys that attended Devon School enlisted. Finny protests, saying that war is nothing but a scheme in order to keep adolescents busy. The war causes Finny and Gene to argue and resulted in a lot of tension. Finny falls to the ground and brakes his leg inadequately. World War II comes from outside and begins weakening Finny and Gene’s friendship. Although Gene and Finny were jealous of each other, they both knew that they were always going to be best friends.
