Computer Hacking
Computer hackers have been around since the early '60s and probably before then. They were not called hackers then but mostly just nerds. There are as many types of hackers as there are people and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some hackers hack for fun, they just won't see if they can get into a program at its core. Or addition to seeing if they can get into the inter-most workings of the computer. They won't the thrill of doing what only a few can do. For some it's like an addiction they wake up with a craving challenge to see how they can go this time. In some ways it's almost like some of those video games where you save the princess. They seek new ways and new ideas to advance their knowledge.
A virus is an infection of the software and installed hardware programs in your PC, your laptop or your network. This kind of virus is usually a small software program itself and is design to create errors within application programs. It's not the kind of virus we had when we were kids. They also try to break into corporate databases and steel technology to sell it to the highest bidder. Some viruses are like time bombs, they hide deep within the bowels of a software program or on your hard drive just waiting for a particular day and time to wake and cause all kinds of major meltdowns in your operating system. It hid itself in the boot sector of floppy disks and every time you put the disk into a computer it made the processor run slow. And earlier this year a virus called the love bug caused hundreds of millions of dollars losses in the form of employee downtime. There was much fear that during Y2K computer viruses would disrupt communications, slow the reproduction of electricity and cause water shortages. People are trying to break into financial institutions. Some hackers are intrigued with software programs, they just want to see if they can improve it or change it to cause some particular window to pop up unexpectedly. Corporations spend millions of dollars each year in the latest technology and software designs to combat hackers. They try to cause chaos through business disturbances just for the thrill of it and by doing so they believe it will give them a reputation of a superior hacker. Most of them today are designed to duplicate them selves by copping people's e-mail address books and sending themselves out with the virus as an attachment.
