To Kill A Mockingbird

             The strange and mysterious Radley home evoked fear in the children of Macomb. The Radley home was tall, set back on a dark lot where shutters flapped on the windows, withholding secrets to the Radley'' lives which left the people of Macomb to their wild imaginations which started gossip and rumours about the Radleys' lives. "Boo Radley" and the details Harper Lee includes about the Radley home put the reader in the same perspective mostly mystify scout, Jem, and Dill.
             When Scout and Jem first meet Dill, he is dumbfounded by the rumours about Boo Radley. He would lean against a pole for hours just staring at the house, wondering about the strange horrors that lay inside, and letting his imagination get the best of him. The large porch out front is a mystery all its own, and the slightest glimpse of movement behind the door or a window creates excitement among the children, who dare not step a foot too close to the mysterious house. When Jem decides to prove his bravery to Dill and Scout, he runs as quickly as possible to touch the front of the house, and return to where the other children awaited him on the road. To the reader this would seem like an unreasonable dare to prove someone's bravery, but the detail given to the house allows us to have the same unique curiosity from a child's point of view so we can see the same perspective of what a great risk Jem was truly taking. Dill and Scout are quite impressed with his bravery, which strongly shows how feared the house actually was.
             Each day walking home from school, the children would run past the Radley house quickly, first because of fear, but it became only natural to them and a force of habit. The large tree out front placed shadows across the house making it more dark and eerie.
