"It is inevitable as children grow up and test out their own powers- that there be some conflict of interests with their parents" (Miller 46). When children are growing up, it is impossible for them to avoid fights and disagreements. Also, children need to find out how far they can cross their boundaries without paying the consequences. Today, teenagers are set rules by their parents. Teenagers like to break these rules to see what will happen to them. Also, curfews are set and broken by teenagers. They try to see how late they can stay out without getting into a lot of trouble. Plus, disagreements occur every day between teenagers and their parents. Teenagers want to go to parties, while their parents do not want them to go. Even in today's world disagreements and arguments happen constantly. Like our world today, Oedipus had the same problems as society's teenagers.
             Tireasas was a parental figure to Oedipus. He was very wise and gave advice to Oedipus. Oedipus tested his powers after he disrespected his "father." Oedipus called for Tireasas when there was a problem in Thebes. He wanted Tireasas' decision on who was the murder of Laius. He stepped out of his boundaries when he declared Tireasas a liar. Tireasas knew he was truthful and did not like how Oedipus was talking to him. So he became angry and said, " 'You are a pitiful figure. The reproaches you fling at me, all these people will fling them at you'" (Sophocles 25). Tireasas was the authority and he let Oedipus know it. Oedipus tried to test his powers and try to become equal with Tireasas but he was denied. Tireasas maintained his parental power over Oedipus. Just as Tireasas was in power over Oedipus, the Gods are in power over everyone. However, sometimes man forgets that fact.
