School Violence

             Violence in school systems has existed for a long period of time. School violence consists of fights, vandalism, shootings, and any act that physically or psychologically harms another child. Any of these acts should be taken serious, even among kindergarten kids. Recently the level of crime in schools has risen. Through the past five years America has been horrified by the images of children killing other children. On April 20, 1999 Americans watched in terror as two Columbine High School seniors opened fire on their classmates. Remaining today is one question about the violence in schools. What makes kids kill kids? There are four main causes for this violence; media, home environment, school systems, and bullying.
             Media attention has skyrocketed in the past twenty years. Most people would say the reason for this is increased technology. Before video games, MTV, and even large action movies violence among children was at a low rate. Since the launch of these activities children have become more aware of inflicting pain on other children. The media has taught children to take out their anger in a negative way. These children are unable to understand the difference between reality and fiction. When they view a person killing another person for fun they do not understand the consequences. Children do not understand when you shoot a person they may die. Their brains are unable to recognize the concept of death. Children may feel that they are not receiving enough attention. The child may do an act of violence in order to get the attention they want. In the minds of children they will get the attention they want, but do not understand the outcomes.
             Many educators have expressed their beliefs that a bad home environment will cause violence. Poor parenting may affect the child in many negative ways. An abused child may feel that hitting is they way to express anger. The child will bring this the
