The Doors
James Douglas Morrison was born on December 8, 1943 in Melbourne, Florida. His father, George Stephen Morrison, was in the U.S. Navy and had just returned from duties in the Pacific. After Jim was born, his father left to go back to war. For the next three years, Jim spent his life with his mother, Clara, living with Steve Morrison’s parents in Clearwater on the Gulf of Mexico (Sugarman 10). In 1946, a year after the war ended, Steve returned and was posted to Washington, D.C. for six months. Clara accompanied him along with Jim. From Washington, he was posted to Albuquerque in New Mexico. While in Albuquerque, Clara gave birth to another child, Anna, giving Jim a sister (“History” home.cai.net). While traveling by car with his parents on a road from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, Jim witnessed an event in which he would describe as “the most important moment in my life”. They came upon an accident involving a truckload of Indians. Many were hurt badly (Sugarman 11). Jim always claimed that the spirit of an ancient Indian medicine man possessed him. Jim never forgot the tragedy. The accident haunted him for a long time after the event, although his father finally told him that it had never happened, that it had been a . . .
He got to be too wild and was kicked out of his dorm, so he transferred to UCLA (Sugarman 12). On July 3, 1971, Jim Morrison was found dead in the bathtub. In March of 1971, Jim and his girlfriend, Pamela, moved to Paris. Jim had not overcome his fear of singing in front of people yet. He began to live his life exactly how he wanted to. John thought it was good because they could now get a better guitarist. They did not see any potential in Jim or his lyrics. Ray also developed a great love for Jim and asked him to move in with him and Dorothy. First up was work on Jim’s vocal ability. He was more enthusiastic this time. The news of his death devastated fans (DesBarres 14). They were now ready to go on a national tour (Sugarman 26). One evening a woman named Miss Haran brought Jac Holzman, the president of Elektra Records, to hear The Doors.
