Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in America's Schools

             One of the most devastating revelations for a parent is to find out their child has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Better known as ADHD or ADD, this developmental disorder has been causing many problems in the schools of America. ADD is controversial in the sense that it could be incorrectly diagnosed or also if it just results from bad parenting. The fact is kids who really suffer from ADHD/ADD are being victimized and schools are not doing enough to help. In schools across America, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has been discredited but teachers need to know it is real, and how to teach accordingly.
             "Right now in schools, Attention Deficit Disorder means nothing to me. Pharmaceutical companies have made this disorder much bigger than it really is and parents have used it as an excuse for their bad parenting. Schools should not waste their time on these wild claims and get on with the essence of teaching." This statement was made by a skeptical parent, when asked about their thoughts on ADHD in schools (Diller 1). This is one of the biggest problems with ADHD in schools...people just don't believe it exists. They believe that it is all just a scam and that teachers shouldn't have to waste their time on these kids and their parents. It is the truth that there is an extremely fine line between "he won't behave" and "he can't behave", but the "he can't behave" side does really exist and society needs to open up their eyes and see it (Barkley 4). ADHD impacts about two students in every classroom across America (Gills 3). This problem should not be ignored any longer.
             Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is not a newly found or even newly formed disorder.
