Abraham Lincoln said many things relating to his thoughts and opinions on slavery. One famous quote that will never be forgotton was, "Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Although this was only a little of a very large speech, this from my mind was the most effective. His days of being president helped many people realize how bad slavery is. He believed that slavery was made by mans selfish nature. Lincoln's ability to speak about slavery in the 1860's was not at all a popular idea to those who wanted to avoid the conroversial issue. He spoke out repeatedly in human life defense and dignity. When Lincoln won his party's nomination, it put him in a competition with a very powerful senator named Steven A. Douglas. Lincoln and Douglas had many debates upon slavery together which made the topic a very big issue. Many newspaper journelists watched the debate offering editorial opinions that were not supportful in american political history. Douglas, hoping to attract to northern democrats and republicans, took a stance of control and argued that Kansas should be made a free state bec
Even though Douglas had won the battle, he had not won the war. Douglas met a challenge trying to show that Lincoln was an abolitionist. It would have made a lot of things in the United States a little easier. Not all northern citizens however, eagerly volunteered for war and as the killings increased, the numbers decreased. President Lincoln took a personally active role in the war, visiting soldier camps in the D. S senetor to which Lincoln won by a slight majority, but the legislative districts had been drawn, which gave the democratic party an electoral majority in several districts. I wish though, that slavery had never been an issue. From my opinion, i believe that Abraham Lincoln's beliefs were very important to our modern society today. He boldy announced that slavery was immoral and needed to be dealt with by the U. The southern democrats accused Douglas of party treason. After spending time reading all of the information about Abraham Lincoln's opinions and his accomplishments towards making slavery illegal, makes me think about how hard all of the struggles were that he actually had to go through. It was the last issue of racial equality that Licoln had the most trouble answering. He could not actually say that slavery was actually immoral, and that slavery was said wrong by god. It also brightened up my mind and explained to me that if you really do want something, then you should never give up on your dream.
