Japanese History
My paper is about Japan after 1853. Japan was involved in many wars and hardships through out its history. I hope that you may be better informed about those after reading my paper.Townsend Harris was an American diplomat who was sent to Japan to persuade them into opening Japan ports to trade. While Harris is in Japan Tamora, the governor of Japan, sent a geisha girl named Okichi to make Harris feel more at home. One day a ship came to Japan that had Cholera on it. Cholera is a very deadly and infectious disease. Five people swam to shore that were infected by the disease. The people of Japan became ill and many died, Harris figured out that the only thing that would kill the disease was fire so they burnt the village. Tamora took Harris and Henry as prisoners and they were to be sent home on the first boat. The next day the people of the village and Tamora came to thank Harris for getting rid of the disease. Tamora made arrangements for Harris to go to Edo. The people of the village came to Harris to be his precession to Edo. When Harris arrived he was shown the great hall, and was asked many questions. The next day lord Shesho was assassinated at the archery competition. Everyone blamed Harris for his death saying that the go
Busihdo is a Japanese tradition that means "way of the warrior". The boxer rebellion of 1900 caused the European powers and Japan to send troops to China. When the fighting was over Russian troops occupied Manchuria and promised to have their troops out of Manchuria by 1903 but stayed wishing to use Manchuria as a source for further expansion into the Far East. Okichi promised her utmost loyalty and trust to fulfill what task she was given. In 1889 the Meiji constitution was adopted. The Russo- Japanese war of 1904-1905 began with a Japanese naval attack on Port Arthur. The Chinese were forced to sue for peace and sign the Treaty of Shimonoseki in April 1895 after a long defeat by Japanese troops. For this reason many of the martial arts that had been linked back to bushido were banned by Americans during the post-war. Many people say that there was no reason for the atomic bombs to be dropped because the Japanese were already defeated and were on the verge of surrendering. The attack left 2,403 dead 188 destroyed planes and a pacific fleet that included 8 damaged or destroyed battleships. The war was provoked over a dispute of who would gain control of Korea. The attack may have only lasted one hour but it left an imprint on any one who was involved or even heard of the attack. Many samurais in Japan have devoted their lives to bushido a strict code that demanded loyalty and honor until the samurai's death. I have also learned valuable information about the Russo Japanese war and the Sino Japanese war.
