Does Competition Kill Corruption
For this assignment I chose to get my journal entries from the Journal of Political Economy. My articles are from three different years, 1997, 1999, and 2001. Christopher Bliss and Rafael Di Tella While a lot of economists believe that competition does kill corruption, the authors of this article believe the opposite to be true, that an increase in competition leads to an increase in corruption. The authors believe you shouldn't take the number of firms in a selected market as the measure of competition because corruption is continually affecting competition levels. Why do Mexican Americans Earn Low Wages? Through his studies the author finds

The author deals a lot with gun ownership. He believes that most low wages result of the youth working at an early age. The author also provides data to show that states that have passed concealed weapon bills allowing citizens to carry a concealed weapon on them, haven't shown a significant increase in gun ownership. The reason they give for this is that a child born on the last day of the year allows for the families to receive all of the tax benefits for the previous year. The author's claim that the chances of a baby being born in the last week of December is 26. A baby born on the first day of the year doesn't receive any benefits from the previous year. Easterners are the least likely to own a gun. The authors claim that some families will plan their babies according to these laws, and even have cesarean section deliveries to meet their time frame. The author focused only on third or higher generation of Mexican Americans. They believe the leader is trying to distract voters from the economic issues and hope it would help them get reelected. They believe this makes them more likely to join a war. The authors claim that because citizens don't really have a say in the day to day government life, their views don't get addressed.
