Walker provides the information that animals are not human; nevertheless, they still preserve the attributes that are the essential elements that make a person alive and able to feel love, pain, despair, and lonesome. I am eating misery, I thought, as I took the first bite. The technique is used so that Blue can become closer in relation with humans. Describing her surprised reaction with specific details, she is able to tell us that to look “human” is quite uncommon on animals. Hate is the fear of mankind treating him with cruelty and hate again. Throughout the second part of the story, Walker uses personification to demonstrate the similar characteristics and expressions animals have that are similar to humans.
