I, William Shakespeare, wrote the play Henry V to commemorate a great English monarch. Henry the V's father was called Bullingbrook and was Henry IV in an earlier play I wrote. The king before Bullingbrook was Richard II. Bullingbrook wasn't happy with the way he was treated by Richard II. Richard II didn't trust Bullingbrook and he banished him to France to prevent him from stealing his crown. Richard II also kept Hal, Bullingbrook's son, who in my play becomes Henry V, as a sort of hostage. He was monitored closely. When Richard II fought in Ireland, Hal went with him. Hal was a good fighter and eventually became friends with Richard II, having got to know him on their escapades.Whilst Richard II was away in Ireland fighting, Bullingbrook was planning to meet Richard II on his way home to England, to defeat him in battle and steal his throne. It was a perfect opportunity for Bullingbrook to do this because Richard's army would be tired as a result of all the fighting in Ireland. Bullingbrook found other people who weren't content with their present king and assembled his own army. Bullingbrook, along with his army met Richard II and defeated him. I now use a part of the speech in which I wrote that Henry V sarcastically tells the dauphin that he can understand how the dauphin could have made his mistake. The Archbishop of Canterbury said that he was justified, claiming that the Salic law, which was passed, was now invalid. Having portrayed this young wild side of Prince Hal in Henry IV part II, It was compulsory that I inform the audience of the rapid change from a fun loving wild prince to a now reformed character and a respectable model King. The audience can see that the Dauphin has made an enormous mistake. He informs his men that outside war there is nothing better than a meek and modest man. Some believe that Bullingbrook had him killed because he couldn't run the risk of Richard winning back the throne. In which I make Henry reply that the Dauphin will regret his message and that they should waste no time in preparing for war. Henry tries to persuade them to try one more time. Like Hal it grows ripe surrounded by nettles, which are the commoner of the plant world. I then use an insult made by Henry, saying, the reason he socialized with commoners was to prepare him to rule the common French. That's why in the opening speech of my play I used the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely to be the audience's informants. I now used an extended metaphor using the image of a tennis match. He got to know the people, who he would eventually lead and earned their respect by showing them that he was human.
