First Day at the Drags

I was eight years old; on my way to a place my father said I would enjoy. I had no idea where we were going to end up, although I was still excited. I was so excited that the hair in the back of my neck was standing up and I was speechless. To make the time go by quicker I played a game with my self on the way there counting bed trucks that had passed by. We never went out as a family much, so when we did it would always be exciting for me. The car ride there seemed to take a lifetime, however it only took us thirty minutes.

When we finally got there my father looked at me and said, “we are here” in a quiet and sneaky voice. I jumped up quickly and took a quick look around; and I saw trees. “Trees?” I whispered to myself, and then a loud, deep rumble shook the inside of my body. The Chevy boy’s face turned red as he stomped away with the ford boy taunting behind him. There were over a hundred cars parked in the pits.

After a while the sounds of the cars and the smell of the cooking hot dogs got to me.

That day at the track really influenced who I am today. I kept my promise to my self and go down and race my car on weekends. I walked behind the car as he drove it onto a trailer and noticed the rear tires were smooth as silk except for a small ball of rubber that fell off, so I picked it up and saved it as a souvenir.

I was shocked about how fast those cars were. I had seen them on TV before but I couldn’t believe we were actually at a drag strip, nor did I even know we had one in Washington State. When to green light flashed the boys turned silent as the two monsters took off in the distance. The supercharger made the mustang it sound like a jet plane as he steeped on the gas. The friends I choose are all into cars, I read all the mustang magazines that come out every month and I also own my a 1998 Green Mustang GT. The smoke from his tires flew right back into my face; I loved it.
