Differences in Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men

The novels, The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men, were very tragic. Both

novels had very strong tragic points of sense of life, impulse and tragedy itself. The Great

Gatsby, however, was a more tragic story.

The novels presented a tragic sense of life throughout the text. Inevitably they

were doomed through their own failures, errors, or even the action of the virtues before

the tragedy ever occurred. In The Great Gatsby, Mr. Wilson, angry about his wife?s death

needs to find revenge and kills Gatsby and then himself. Mr. Wilson believed he did

wrong holding Myrtle inside and planned to fix things for her murder by killing the person

with the car that hit her. He goes insane and kills Gatsby and then shoots himself to end it

all, when really Gatsby didn?t hit his wife. On the other hand, in Of Mice and Men, Lennie

was born retarded and different from everybody else. On page 45 quote ?Course he ain?t

. . .

The Great Gatsby portrays impulse

when Myrtle thinks Tom is coming for her and runs out in front of the car. Myrtle?s husband goes crazy and everything

could have been avoided if Daisy told the truth. Gatsby, in love with Daisy, is an innocent pawn that gets shot for keeping

his mouth shut and Daisy pretended like nothing happened while all of this went on. He just wanted to touch her dress and didn?t understand he was

upsetting her.

Tragic impulse celebrates the courage and dignity in the face of defeat and then

attempts to portray grandeur of the human spirit. Right in the back of the head, he said softly. She had the impulse to run out because she thought in

her mind that he loved her and was going to save her. For example on page 100 ?Don?t you go yellin?,

he said, and shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. in trouble alla time because he?s so God damn dumb.

From comparing and contrasting the two novels The Great Gatsby and Of Mice

and Men, the story of The Great Gatsby is more tragic. As a result of her

actions and not being responsible, Gatsby was killed by Mr. ? He doesn?t

know how to act and touches a girl?s dress and almost gets killed because he didn?t know

he was scaring her. The story is about cheating and

romance that has a heartbreaking ending. In

consequence she gets hit and dies.
