The Pygmy Goat was originally called the African Dwarf Goat. The Pygmy Goat first came from a former French Area off the West Coast of Africa. Heinz Ruhe brought the Pygmy Goat to the United States in 1959. Showing a Pygmy Goat
Pygmy goats are easy to show and maintain. If they are not locked in a milk stand, have a someone help hold on to them, or tie them up by a lead rope attached to a collar. That’s why you want to keep them on a regular feeding schedule, that way they don’t get off balance. The female pygmy goats have an estrus cycle for 18 to 23 day. An attached outside enclosure with at least 4 foot high fencing will provide as area for exercise. If you do find any just pick them off, and if you are not sure what to do call the vet. You never want to feed them to much alfalfa because it will bloat them, if this happens you want to walk them and make them move. This may or may not make a difference when you are showing your Pygmy goats. Hay or pasture should always be available when you are breeding your goats.
Housing for Pygmy Goats
You will need some type of simple shelter for your goat. Many breeders give less grain if good pasture is available.
