The Right to Bear Arms: Legal Right or Human Nature

The second amendment of the United States constitution states: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." (GunCite) The purpose of the second amendment was to guarantee and preserve the idea that all men and later, women, had the right to own and bear arms on the American soil they lived on. The Founding Fathers won our country it's freedom using firearms. After we won our independence the Founding Fathers decided to include the right to keep and bear arms in the Constitution to ensure that freedom they had fought for and won would last. Throughout history of this country it is the firearm that have been used to defend that freedom from both foreign aggressors and from violent criminal aggressors. People own and use firearms for many reasons, be it hunting, organized sports competitions, recreational use, or for protection. Without the right to keep and bear arms, America would not be a free country, and many more violent crimes would be occurring. The fact that gun control is not one issue, but consists of many is a big issue to start with. For some a gun is just a way for a person to commit a crime. For others

It is because of some of these people that recent legislations have been passed restricting the ability of a person to obtain and own a gun. The shooting was ruled to be a case of self-defense ("Armed Citizen")If the five-day waiting period had been in effect, it is highly likely that an innocent woman would have been killed. "But if it weren't for the courage and convictions of an armed citizenry willing to go to extremes, none of us would be here today. It may seem that hunting is harmful to wildlife and the environment. It should be the responsibility of the people owning the guns to make sure they are used in a safe and appropriate manner. A criminal is defined as someone who has broken a law or one who breaks a law. The basis of this legislation was the Dred Scott Decision. Ross Fired twice, mortall wounding him. Records show that "a police background was run on Hinckley four days before he purchased the revolver he used to shoot President Reagan and Jim Brady. Men, women, children, and even certain individuals with certain disabilities can enjoy these firearm sports since it does not require much agility or physical strength. The fact is that the background check and waiting period included in the Brady Bill would not have prevented John Hinckley from legally purchasing the handgun used in that incident. There are many ways for a criminal to purchase, obtain, or acquire a firearm that are not blocked by the Brady Bill. Firearms can be dangerous in the wrong hands but it can be a strong deterrent towards crime. Fortunately, this five-day wait is waived in states like Virginia which have an instant background check system in place. In the Olympic Games there are two competitions which include firearms in them.
