A Cry for Canabis

             For thousands of years, marijuana has been utilized for its medicinal purposes. Up until 1937, when it was declared illegal, marijuana was a frequent ingredient in more than 27 pharmaceutical drugs. The question of whether or not it should be legalised has been an immense subject of debate over the past three decades. There are many reasons for which I believe it should be legalised. For example, marijuana has been proven beneficial in the treatment of many of today's most life threatening diseases, also if legalised the government is now in the 'driver's seat' and can control this so called harmful substance. Therefore marijuana should be legalised for a vast number of medicinal and social reasons. Allow me to elucidate.
             The debate over the legalisation of marijuana to the general public has room for more thought, however there should be no questions asked regarding the legalisation of marijuana for its medicinal purposes. In 1972 the Chief Administrative Law Judge of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), Francis L. Young, stated and I quote; 'Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances....' No one has ever died from an overdose of marijuana, and its limits are boundless. This substance is very effective in the fight against many of today' worst feared diseases. Marijuana has proven to relieve nausea and increases appetite, reduce intraocular pressures, reduce muscle spasms and relieve chronic pain. These are all symptoms of conditions such as AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis and the list goes on. The fact that marijuana has not been decriminalized for its medicinal purposes is inscrutable. Judge Young also said 'It would be unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious of the DEA to continue to stand between those sufferers and the benefits of this substance....' Who are we to tell a suffering cancer patient that he/she may not use this subst...
