The Infamy of Amaru

The Inca of yesterday is the same modern Peru of today. Both the old and the new Inca/Peru hold the same two people dear to their hearts. Túpac Amaru, whose untimely death at the age of 28 left the accent Inca in silence, was an Incan revolutionary leader of the sixteenth century (Werlich, 41). Amaru is remembered by his Incan and Peruvian peoples alike as being the one who changed the political atmosphere and the morale of their people. Amaru's name has survived throughout five centuries as a symbol against injustice. Amaru was born during the year of 1571, into a lineage that stemmed from a long line of royalty. Amaru was a direct descendent of Huayna Capac, who was the Eleventh emperor of the Inca empire. Amaru was also the fourth Vilcabamba emperor to rule. Vilcabamba was a region in the Inca Empire made up of mountains and jungle wilderness located north of Cuzco (Werlich, 47). Túpac was the legitimate son of Inca Yupanqui and being a legitimate son has great significance according to Incan Belief. The Incas believed only the legitimate children or the children of whose mother was loved more could rule. One text has his initial name as Amaru Túpac Inca. Not much is written about the history of Túpac Amaru but what wa

The disloyal rebels preceded to hand him over to the loyalists (Fisher, 216-7). Nevertheless, he also led a powerful and influential rebellion that would affect Peru and its peoples for centuries to come. Túpac Amaru II was born in 1742 in the province of Tinta, Peru (Fisher, 25). The planning for the rebellion, known as the Tupac Amaru Rebellion, began during the year of 1778. What is clearly understood from that time of his rule is the immense wealth of love that was bestowed upon him by his Incan peoples. While only little is know about Túpac Amaru and much in known of Túpac Amaru II, both have remained symbols of hope and inspiration throughout the centuries. Their rebellions may have been unsuccessful, but in some aspects they did help in the War of Independence of the early 1800's. Shortly after the enlargement of his following, there was a visible point that Amaru was beginning to lose control of his people. Their passion for justice ignited inspiration in their people, which in turn helped to fight for their independence. While this rebellion was not successful, the War for Independence that took place in the early 1800's was very successful. A great opportunity to overtake Cuzco was missed on January 8, 1781. Amaru had just returned from trying to fight for justice for the native people within the Incan judicial system (Robins, 59). All of these stolen goods were turned over to Amaru, who then distributed an equal amount to all of his followers in preparation for the future conflicts with the loyalists. A majority of the occupants that were burned to death in the church were women and children. Amaru was sentenced to have his tongue cut out, and his arms and legs strapped to four horses that would dismember him.
