Juliet essay, Romeo and Juliet

In the famous story Romeo and Juliet, Juliet plays a very important part and is an important character. Her actions leave people with questions and comments about the decisions she made. Juliet is a very important character because she is the one that marries Romeo, she is the forbidden Capulet, and she is the one that shows the most emotions in the story. Throughout the story, Juliet makes decisions that show she is confident, independent, and is a risk taker.
Juliet has shown her sense of confidence throughout the story and in many different stages of emotion. Juliet- "if that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow, by one that I'll procure to come to thee, where and what time thou wilt perform the rite."(Act 2, scene 2, line 156-159) In this quote, Juliet asks Romeo to marry her, now usually the man asks the women to marry him, but Juliet was confident about the situation. Juliet believes in herself and dares to ask a man she has just met to marry her, which definitely takes a good sense of confidence that Juliet owns. Juliet-"my words would bandy her to my sweet love, and his to me."(Act 2, scene 5, line14-15) Juliet is expressing her sure love of Romeo only after one day she met him at the party. Juliet is no doubt a confident person because she is so sure of her love towards Romeo that she marries him, no matter what anyone had said. Juliet has plenty of confidence because she shows it to the viewers of this play, and clearly you can see the confidence.
A lot of women, at the time the play Romeo and Juliet was written, in late 1500's, were not independent. Women relied on their parents and husbands for advice or major decisions. Juliet shows a great deal of being independent about a lot of her tough times and situations where she had to make awkward decisions. Juliet-"is there no pity sitting in the clouds that sees into the bottom of my grief? O sweet my mother, cast me not away!
