Pride and Prejudice

This story was set in a place called Longbourn, England sometime during the Napoleonic War. I believe that the main conflict in this book is not exactly between two people, however there are issues of concern regarding the loss of self-sovereignty, snobbery and the English class struggle. In my opinion the climax was when Mr. Darcy proposed Elizabeth. The protagonist is a girl named Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth is intelligent and clever. It doesn’t state how old she is, but it is clear that she is old enough to get married. The antagonist is a lady by the name of Lady Ca

Although I tend to shy away from books which are not fantasy, this novel showed me what a well written and challenging novel should be like. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s women writers were not acknowledged as actual writers but as mere women, and she prevailed for it by using and anonymous . She uses a lot of her past experiences and feelings in her books, which I think really distinguishes her as an elite writer of the 19th century.

This novel (Pride and Prejudice) was very well written. She was only known as a writer among her family because she kept it secret. Jane Austin also wrote such books as Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and Emma. Lady Catherine is rich and very bossy. The novel is a slow moving book which gives it the deep down feeling that great books always have. Jane wrote many of her books during the Napoleonic War. The genre of this book is part romance part historical fiction. The characterization was quite believable because much of it was based on her past experiences. All in all this novel was not the top novel in my book, however a good book for people that are into that genre.
