African colonization in jamaica
Theme: The cultural arrogance of the West through their colonization of Africa. The colonization of Africa did not only bring harm to the continent itself in the fact that it’s land and people were being destroyed and taken over but it made way for a new era in Western civilization called the African slave trade. The slave trade brought thousands of African people to the western world and forced them to start a new life, which for many was a new life of tragedy. This is shown in the short story called “The Trouble” which is narrarated and seen through the eyes of a young Negro boy. The story is set in the middle of a riot between blacks and whites in a large city. As t . . .
As the door is opened the boy notices the bloody body of his mother in the arms of one of the men. The western people do not care what harm may come to the Negro person oh to his family all they care about is that he meets his death for being black and coming from Africa. Throughout the book the Negro family do not want riots between whites and blacks to happen. ” This shows the power of white people in this society and the impact a mear sound of a white person can have on a couple of Negro children and the black population in general. he books open the panic and fright of white colored people is evident in the children when the boy says: “ There was a rumpus downstairs in front and I could hear a mess of people tramping up the stairs. ” This shows the reckless care for another mans life and body. The irony in the matter is that the whites brought the blacks to their country for slavery and now their trying to get rid of the blacks because they do not want them anymore. This is a clear example of the cultural arrogance of the West. He described his mother’s body as “all bloody like a sharp stick”. As several white mobs chase Negro’s outside his window he depicts the chase as: “like the white folks do when they go fox-hunting. They kept on coming after the second floor and my sister Carrie, my twin, said maybe there were whites come to get us because we saw what they did to the shot-in-the-leg colored in the alley. After this event several Negro men knock hysterically on their door. They respect whites for who they are and wish only for peace.
