Huck Finn
Mark Twain wrote this book in 1884. In the very beginning it has a warning saying, "Persons attempting to find motive in this narrative will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find moral in it will be banished; persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot''. I don't really understand this since there are two plots that are filled with motive to do well. The two characters that lead this story are Huckleberry Finn, who goes by the name of Huck Finn and Jim, a runaway slave who Huck grew up with. The sub characters are Tom Sawyer, who is the best friend of Huck. Then the widow who took Huck in to civilize him and Ms. Watson, her sister who owns Jim and helps raise Huck. Then there are the King and Duke, who lie and cheat people out of their money moving from town to town. The book begins with Huck recapping what happened after his last adventure with Tom Sawyer. He and Tom found $12,000 dollars and split it 50/50. The widow and her sister, Ms. Watson, take in Huck to "sivilize" him. Now Huck lives in a house, sleeps in a bed, goes to school an
I think the point of this book was to tell about Huck's moral struggle. Huck is caught in the crossfire, literally, when the two families have it out for each other. I think Mark Twain did a great job getting that point across and I really agree with the moral of the story. He wanted to help Jim get his wife and children, but knew it was bad to help a slave escape. Tom agrees to help Huck steal Jim and comes to the house saying he is Sid, Tom's brother. Along their way they get separated and Huck finds himself living in a deranged town with a very deranged family, the Grangfords, who take him in. Huck finds out and goes to the family who has him. Huck is then kidnapped by his father and isn't let out of the house. It isn't long before Huck's deadbeat father comes around looking for Huck, but mostly for his money. When he is running to get away from it he stumbles across Jim and the raft and they high tale it out of there. Jim runs away so he can go to free land to buy his wife and children. Huck and Jim decided that the company would be nice and let them come along. After a couple of days he discovers Jim is hiding out at Jackson Island, also.
