Today, January 20, 2003, over 50,000 people, both young and old, braved the cold weather and proudly walked over two miles in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. The march began at the Boy's and Girl's Club on Martin Luther King Boulevard on San Antonio's East side and ended at E. Houston and N. New Braunfels along side Dr. King's statue. If only we could eradicate prejudice. lready know, San Antonio's march is one of the largest in the nation, even beating out Martin Luther King's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. King would be proud of this city and how we come together this time of year. He would also be proud of the diverse cultures that live and work here with little or no incidents at all. I sometimes sit back and wonder why do some people have so much hatred. I was even surprised to see many young people, when asked by the different news reporters about King, knew what King did and what he stood for-equality and justice for ALL. Once again, the people of San Antonio have made me proud to be a citizen of this city. Until these so called "role models" teach their children to not hate there will always be hatred in the world. This would make this great nation an even better place to live. King's dream alive - that of equality for all people. There were no incidents during or after the march, just proud people of all ethnicities joining together to keep Dr. Hatred is taught not something we are born with.
