Ancient Greece was a civilization that thrived around the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its advances in philosophy, architecture, drama, and government. These advances have greatly affected the way Western Civilization has developed. Our modern country has adapted some of their theories, and methods of living. Greece has greatly affected the way Western Civilization has developed.Government in the time of ancient Greece has greatly affected the way that our Civilization is run. Over the time in which Ancient Greece thrived, there were many forms of government. There was Monarchy, Tyranny, and Democracy. Some of these forms of government are still in use today. Democracy was first started in Greece, in the city-state of Athens. Athenian democracy shared authority by choosing most government officials from the citizenry through a lottery and imposing term limits. Military and financial affairs were filled by elections. These products, as well as pots, and other art crafts would then be traded with other city-states thus creating an economy. In the western civilization this type of entertainment is still popular today. In the modern western civilization, it is the same concept, a city that is represented by and elected official/Mayor. Farmers would mainly farm grapes for vine and olives for oil. Trading with other countries is a large part of the economy. The Greeks were the first ones that created this amazing type of architecture. They would turn an everyday item into art. Some of these columns still exist in the western civilization today. Architecture and Art is what you think of when you think “Greece. Most of the towns were painted to fit its artistic style. Many one these columns are on houses, buildings, and even the Capital. ” Greeks expressed themselves in there structures, arts, and paintings. Greek art is still very relevant in the western civilization. There were three types of columns; Doric columns have a strong square base at the top and were the simplest and sturdiest of the three, Ionic columns hand a type of swirl at the top and were taller and more narrow than the Doric columns, Corinthian columns looked much like the Doric column but at the top instead of a block there was a tree like figure.
