how does the image of Macbeth change throughout the play?

How Does the Image of Macbeth Change throughout the Play? Macbeth changed drastically throughout the play, from good to evil. The characters caught on to him fairly quickly. Some were loyal at the beginning and then were completely against him at the end. It was interesting to see how people can turn on others so quickly. Originally, Macbeth was perceived by many as a bold and noble man. He was well respected. He had won a battle for his country and people saw the good in him. They believed that he was very brave and loyal, as proven when Duncan says,"Only I have left to say,/ More is thy due than more than all can pay."Duncan himself was naive and trusting. He believed that Macbeth was a great Thane, and was very happy to give him a promotion. He showed a lot of praise toward Macbeth, verified when Duncan remarked,"We love/ him highly, and shall continue our graces towards him." The three witches had set Macbeth on his murderous path right from the start. They played on his ambition by telling him his 'future'. It seemed that the witches wanted him to believe it was his future, when in actuality they only wanted him to cause trouble to make his future a reality. Th

They knew that they would get paid adequately if they did not disclose the secret of who had hired them. He suspected Duncan's sons because they had run away. Instead of using his ambition, they made him confused, as shown in the three apparitions. He swore that he would have Macbeth's head and he did!"Behold, where stands/ Th' usurper's cursed head. When she heard what the three witches had predicted for Macbeth, she believed and was very determined to see success come to her and her husband. Lady Macbeth also thought Macbeth to be weak-willed, proven when she scolded him for bringing the daggers from the scene of Ducan's murder back with him. Macduff swore revenge upon Macbeth. "(III, V, 136-139) In these above lines, Macbeth had shown that he knew that he could not turn back time and he realized that he is basically screwed. Lennox remarked that all that have sided with Macbeth have paid dearly for their decision. Banquo trusted Macbeth, and they were considered friends. Maybe he believed that Macbeth was wrongfully crowned, but maybe he just never liked Macbeth. "(IV, I, 80-81) This told Macbeth that he did not have to worry about anyone who was born of a woman. "(IV, I, 73)"The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth. "(III, III, 3) Macbeth himself had realized a change within him.
