Alone
Whenever I drive alone, a tiny voice buried deep in my mind starts talking to me. It asks me, "What are you going to do if your car breaks down?" Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I don't want to be stuck on a strange, dark, deserted road with a broken down car (which is one of my biggest fears). I don't know much about cars, so in a situation like that, I would be helpless. I would be helpless, but I'm not. I own a cell phone. My cell phone can be annoying and expensive, but the convenience and extra features make it worthwhile. Sometimes, owning a cell phone is annoying. If I forget to charge the battery, the cell phone might as well be a paperweight. Several times, when I've driven in less populated areas, my phone informs me of the fact that I am in a "no service area". This has also happened in buildings with thick cement walls, especially Meier and Frank at Lloyd Center. My phone doesn't work everywhere. Since I carry my phone with me at all times, anyone who has my phone number can contact me at (practically) anytime, which is not always a good thing. I hate answering my phone when I'm driving, but sometimes people keep calling me repeatedly. They call me
My phone is small, and fits easily in my pocket or purse. Modern cell phones make life easier. If I want to know what time it is, I can just glance at my phone, which has a clock on the display. I hate digging for change to use a pay phone, so owning a cell phone is convenient. I spend about forty dollars per month on my phone, which adds up to about four hundred eighty dollars per year. Then, after I buy a new face, I have to buy buttons to match. This feature is great for me, because I am horrible at math. When the technology improved, cell phones became more affordable. Instead of digging through my purse for loose change, I just pull out my handy dandy little phone and dial. I am driving alone on that strange, dark, deserted road.
