Cause and effect

High school English is supposed to lead students into to college English. I thought that was the theory behind it all. I was wrong. What high school English did for me is make me become even dumber when I got to college. From drawing monsters for no reason, to acting out plays, I think I learned more English in 1st grade than I did in my entire high school career. That's pretty sad.
Ms. S was my first English teacher that came in the 9th grade. She was a weird woman, with a funky smelling room, her frizzy hair, and face that I never want to see again. I know that sounds mean, but it's the truth. Her of looked like Frankenstein. Ms. S didn't teach me much in the 9th grade. Every day, whether we read Romeo and Juliet, or acted the play out, what we did had nothing to do with teaching the proper English. I hated acting out the plays because when we had went over the play two or three times, we were required to memorize our part of the play. I though this was just the worse thing in the world because I already hated the play with a passion and this was just adding to it. We never did any worksheets, went over any grammar, or even talked about different parts of speech. I earned a "D" in that class because I hated plays and wanted no part of this class. It screwed up my GPA and I will always dislike her for that.
My sophomore year I had a teacher by the name of Mr. M. A cool guy, as interested in sports as I was, he and I got along pretty well. In his class, a typical day consisted of writing a journal entry every day, guessing the question of the day for extra credit, and either having a debate about an issue going on or watching a movie. We would also listen to a play on a tape player, but that was very rare. I didn't mind this class because any class was better than Ms. S's class. I got along well with the teacher, and he was also a very nice guy.
