Book Report on The Killer Angels and Avalon

The Killer Angels and Avalon are very interesting and informative fictional pieces of literature. The Killer Angels, written by Michael Shaara, depicts the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War and involves several famous Civil War Generals. Stephen R. Lawhead is the British author of Avalon, which is a story about a man who is told that he is the heir to the throne of England, and must drastically change his life as well as save the old British Monarchy from extinction. James Stuart, the main character in Avalon, is also faced with the fact that he was once King Arthur, and his mission is to save the British Monarchy from the Prime Minister and his Devolution Party whose sole aspirations are to destroy the monarchy altogether. Each story displays several aspects of history. Avalon displays history by using the legend of King Arthur, while showing the more modern-day Bri

The Killer Angels and Avalon were very excellent pieces of literature, each consisting of different ideas. Avalon provided a modern fictional depiction of the King Arthur legend and how it changed the life of an average man destined for greatness, while The Killer Angels allowed the reader to see the battle of Gettysburg from both sides of the spectrum. The battle of Gettysburg was the deciding factor in which side would win the war. Each story also involves major conflicts that occur, but the outcomes are both different. Although they were very different, they both possessed an essence of history; one pertaining to the tale of King Arthur, and the other displaying the American Civil War. Another difference between the two books are how each author reveals the conflicts to come. James Stuart's major conflict out of his many minor ones was his fight to keep the British monarchy from being destroyed. An example of this would be how Harrison (The Spy) warns Longstreet of the Union army's advance. The Killer Angels is very historical because of its display of a memorable American battle. In Avalon, the conflicts tend to unravel as each chapter progresses, while at the same time leaving the reader in suspense. The Killer Angels is very direct and forward in what events are to come. In chapter twenty-six, the reader views the many positions and the staff of the Prime Minister whose runs many of the executive tasks for the British government. This clearly displays the difference in the styles used in each of the books. Shaara displays protagonistic characteristics in both armies of the Civil War, which causes the reader to sympathize for the Confederates when they lose the battle of Gettysburg.
