Book Report on The Killer Angels and Avalon

             The Killer Angels and Avalon are very interesting and informative fictional pieces of literature. The Killer Angels, written by Michael Shaara, depicts the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War and involves several famous Civil War Generals. Stephen R. Lawhead is the British author of Avalon, which is a story about a man who is told that he is the heir to the throne of England, and must drastically change his life as well as save the old British Monarchy from extinction. James Stuart, the main character in Avalon, is also faced with the fact that he was once King Arthur, and his mission is to save the British Monarchy from the Prime Minister and his Devolution Party whose sole aspirations are to destroy the monarchy altogether.
             Each story displays several aspects of history. Avalon displays history by using the legend of King Arthur, while showing the more modern-day British government and the many positions in the government. In chapter twenty-six, the reader views the many positions and the staff of the Prime Minister whose runs many of the executive tasks for the British government. Someone who is unfamiliar with the British government will receive a better understanding of how the government is run.
             The Killer Angels is very historical because of its display of a memorable American battle. The battle of Gettysburg was the deciding factor in which side would win the war. The story involves each of the Generals who were involved in the battle, and Michael Shaara does an excellent job of portraying an unprejudice depiction of each character. Even though the Confederates lost the war, Shaara displays the acclaimed Southern chivalry through characters such as Generals Lee and Longstreet.
