Hamlet -- William Shakespeare
Shakespeare's Hamlet is probably the most quoted and debated play of all time. 'To be or not to be?' that indeed is the question that has been asked over and over and debated for generations. Hamlet is essentially a revenge tragedy, where the hero, Hamlet, battles for answers to find out if Claudius really did murder his father and how shall he
Unfortunately it was Polonius, Laertes' father. During Hamlets madness, he throws himself on an eavesdropper within his mother's curtains, thinking its Claudius, killing him instantly with his dagger. Interestingly enough, Hamlet contains 2 revenge tragedies. Throughout the play Hamlet tries to find out the truth, and ultimately make his move. So while the reader is contemplating about Hamlet's tactics, the reader is also entertained by a complete opposite approach. He wastes no time with asking questions and immediately cahoots with Claudius to murder Hamlet. Shakespeare almost intentionally puts in the second plot to contrast the different methods. This unfolds into yet another plot for revenge, this time by Laertes against Hamlet. Hamlet takes his time, like an experienced chess player, attempting to learn his opponent's moves and calculate the next few. However, Laertes' job is easier; he doesn't have to contemplate who the murderer is or what his true intentions were. This all adds to the tragedy of the ending, striking all emotions at once. is not 100% sure if Claudius is the murderer and has speculated that the ghost of his father may be the devil playing with his mind, he cannot act in his rash rage. Laertes is blinded by this rage and knows of Hamlet's sins. Aside from the main story, a similar tale unfolds.
