It Is Wrong for Christians to Drink Alcohol

All around the world, alcohol has been a name that a lot of people could be identified with. In fact, children of the Western world could even give you some information about it. Besides, alcohol consumption had so much spread all over nations of the world due to the help of pubs, hotels, motels, restaurants, relaxation centers, roadside shops, supermarkets, stores and so on. It is quite interesting what alcohol consists of.
The Oxford Dictionary defines it as "a colourless volatile flammable liquid which is the intoxicating constituent of wine, beer, spirits, and other drinks, and is also used as an industrial solvent and as fuel". Intoxicate means to cause (someone) to lose control of their faculties or behaviour. The Latin word for intoxicate is 'intoxicare' which means 'to poison'. It is interesting to say that when we hear that word 'poison', the first thing that comes to mind is death. The next question to ask after these definitions is 'Is this the same thing we consume?'
Various surveys have been carried out in different nations as regards alcohol consumption. One of the surveys I found interesting was the one carried out by the Australian Government, which was based on Western Australia in 1994. An extract from their findings in respect of the subject matter shows that approximately 68% of 18 to 34 year old people drink alcohol regularly, 17% drink only occasionally and 16% do not drink alcohol at all. It is not surprising to find such data from a Western World nation like Australia. One of the reasons why it is very possible to see such an outcome in various other Western countries is because of the well-established pubs available around those countries. Pubs have been termed as a place of relaxation after a hectic day and a good place for group celebration. With this in mind, we could see that the Christian Community is equally exposed to this trend.
