Cloning and Technology
Cloning is creating an exact copy of a living organism from a single cell, using a genderless organism where the organism inherits the genetical characteristics from the parent who donated the cell. Scientist have been studying and experimenting the concept of cloning for the last fifty years. Cloning in regards to technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Some of these advantages of cloning with the help of technology are help the increase of population, farm better livestock for human, child cloned for unfertile parents, cloning lost family members, and decrease in developing a serious disease. The disadvantages of cloning is decrease I genetic diversity, technology is new and very unstable, and maybe inhuman. One of the advantages that were mentioned earlier was increasing population in endangered species such as plants and animals. With this technology we can clone animals that can produce a faster way to provide food. We can use cloning with plants to produce more of certain species that are going extinct. Infertile parents could have their prayers answered by using the tissue of a one parent to give rise to a new baby. The continuation of human technology is major benefits to the human race. This would be a disadvantage, for example, Dolly was produced from 300 in Scotland. Brilliant people could be reproduced indefinitely. Are we playing God? Christianity religion believes God is the only true creator of life and it would be blasphemous for humans to play his role. Doctors expect to eventually "offer expectant mothers an option to diagnose and treat the future early enough to correct disorders such as Down's syndrome, miscarriages, and genetically induced sensory diseases like blindness or deafness" (Chellam, 1999, 1 October). Cloning can helped in giving birth and also with death. To stop cloning technology will cause a technology which may someday cure diseases, prevent the deaths of people who wait unceasingly for an organ for transplant, give hope to people who otherwise cannot have their own child, and allow more people with extraordinary traits to be born into this world, reproduce a love one that have died. With this we can run into a lot of problems. Even though we have some downsides, human cloning is a possibility in playing a big role in our future. Genes of these clones would not have unique genes as human beings. The uniqueness of each human being would be compromised in God eyes. Some diseases are inborn and cause permanent defects on an individual. Banning human cloning is same as disallowing life. One of these downsides are decrease in genetic diversity, this is the lost of unique genes.
