Rebel Without A Cause
In the movie, "Rebel Without a Cause", it shows us three middle class teens (Jim, Judy, and Plato) who become rebellious because of problems within their families. The false interpretation of teenage rebellion is justified in this movie. We see three teenagers who are completely victimized by their parents. Jim Stark (played by James Dean) has been put through a tough situation throughout his life. His mother doesn’t give him hardly any attention, and his father is extremely tough with discipline. He later meets up with two other people (Judy and Plato) who share many of the same problems as he does. Judy, like Jim, is another teenager denied of love by her parents. Once she reaches her sexual maturity, her father begins to reject her. Plato also suffers from parental denial, b . . .
Plato's character in the film is confused and very aggressive. This is a Freudian ideal and denies the fact that every individual has the freedom to make their own decisions, and Jim did not have to take part in that "chicken run", which ended in Buzz's death. It also shows that his friends are linked to him by a strong moral attachment, which is another circumstance at which Plato (the Greek Philosopher) has explored in many experiments. These three kids are drawn together at school because of their family problem similarities. ecause his parents are never at home. The ensuing arguments between Jim and his parents lead to Jim's running away from home. He lashes out with violence whenever he is put under pressure. By the end of the movie they have all returned home and have come to some sort of a conclusion about solving their problems. When Jim informs his parents about everything that has taken place, they tell him that he must tell the truth about what had happened. Together the three embarks on an adventure in order to help them escape from their emotional and social problems. It eventually leads to a knife fight and then an unlawful game of "chicken run" which tragically ends in Buzz's death. Plato's significance is also important as his character and the name (Plato) draw parallels with the famous Greek philosopher. Plato also runs from home for the same reason. Because of Judy's hatred towards her father, and her admiration for Jim, Jim becomes a type of father figure for her.
