The Economic Role Women had in Early Civilizations
Women in the early civilizations such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Greeks played a very important role in their economies. The economies of these early civilizations were very important for their ultimate survival. Women participated in the shaping and creation of much of these societies life. Economically, they contributed to things such as the textile trade, preparations and food gathering, prostitution, and even the mothering of their children. Women in these early times were not allowed to do much, but the things they were allowed helped their economies much more than most would think. As time would go on, women received a little bit of a higher status and with this status their overall meaning and ways of life increased. In early Mesopotamia, women played a significant role in the overall food productions. The productions include the food preparation, gathering, carrying, and presenting. Women in this civilization gathered and kept the overall supply of the food for their families. For it was in this civilization that the women had been given their first purpose in life. The last important role I believe women played in the early civilizations was the in the area of prostitution. At times when all around them was a man's world, these women stuck through it and did what they knew best; raising, nurturing, and letting the family grow. The textile trade is something that is always a very important part to any society. Yet another important economic role that women had in these early times was that of the textile trade. These women in general were not rewarded at all for what they did. In today's world, prostitution is looked down upon and not valued at all. This obviously was a prime example that they were tired of being left home, alone by themselves to care for the families. Basically the women here nurtured them throughout their early years, alone. It was the women's job to stay at home, inside alone and care for the family. The goods produced were very important to the societies in these early times. This role was very important in these early civilizations merely because no matter which culture you look into, the carrying on of the family name and family in general, was very important to them. It was also a way in which a family could sell their own daughter into. The accomplishments made by these women were astounding. We need clothes to keep warm, cover up, and display how we want to be viewed by others.
