A Personal Statement
My heart was racing as I strapped my left foot onto the board. I had knots in my stomach while I waited in line to get on the chairlifts. I kept thinking that I was going to make the biggest mistake of my life; deep down I really wanted to go home. Two years ago when I first started snowboarding, I never knew something so fun could change me as a person. Trying new things was not something I had always done. What I once thought was the biggest mistake of my life was now the best thing that had happened to me. Snowboarding, to me, is
Snowboarding allows me to be my own coach; I make the calls. It requires quite a bit of physical and mental strength and just like any other sport I have to be in shape and have common sense. My main goal in life after high school is to thrive in college. Most importantly though, it has taught me to set my own goals and achieve them. I am a very motivated and self-determined person. I can safely say from experience that it is not a very easy sport. How could I possibly do that under the pressure of coaches, teammates, and fans? Easy. Snowboarding has given me a positive attitude towards life and has taught me to never give up. It is about challenging myself physically and mentally. A sport should be something that I not only challenge myself with, but I'm also able to learn from and grow as a person. I challenge myself because I want to become better at things, not because somebody else wants me to. I feel that all of my hard work will lead me to nothing but success just as my hard work at snowboarding has lead me to success. People always asked what sports I have played, and I always replied that I was not in any.
