Vitamin C concentration (Bio lab report)
What is the concentration level of vitamin C in freshly squeezed orange juice, Fanta, Nikoline and "Rigtig Juice". How does the soda compare to real juices? Will the freshly squeezed orange juice contain more vitamin C than the sodas? Basically I want to prove that freshly squeezed orange juice contains more vitamin C than other juices, including sodas, and prove that sodas aren't as healthy as companies, such as the ones who manufacture Nikoline and Fanta, claim they are to be. I believe that the freshly squeezed orange juice will contain a lot more than all the other juices. Rigtig Juice will score the second highest, Nikoline the third and Fanta the fourth. The reason for this is that all the juices I've mentioned have been processed and mixed with water to save costs, as well as additions such as flavour enhancements and other substances added. With all the extra ingredients added, the vitamin C level will be low.
Nikoline surprised me as well as it supposably prides itself on containing the most orange juice than other sodas. Maybe some of us squeezed harder than the others and therefore more iodine was added to the solution per drop and we, therefore, had different results. Freshly squeezed orange juice, therefore, is a healthier alternative to sodas. For the first trial, use only one test tube with any solution and add one drop of iodine into the solution until you notice a colour change. In conclusion, we have proven that sodas do not contain a good enough amount of vitamin C (not good enough seeing as how they advertise the fact they actually contain "real oranges") and even Rynkebys Rigtig Juice doesn't contain as much vitamin C as I thought it would have. Repeat with the other test tubes and write down how many drops and then make an average. Amount of juice addedDependent a Concentration of Vitamin CMaterials / Apparatus List:2 orange1 bottle of Fanta1 bottle of Nikoline1 carton of Rynkeby Rigtig Juice20 test tubes (4 solutions * 5 trials)Bottle of iodineMethods:Step one: To properly collect the data it would be best to make a table with the solution of the left side and the number of trials on the top. I would have imagined it to contain a higher percentage of vitamin-C. Step two: Put 1 ml of each substance into 4 test tubes. The only way we could be certain of this would be to repeat the entire experiment and have all the different members in our group conduct their own experiments on each of the solutions. We chose to have 5 different trials and average them all to ensure a better accuracy. Rigtig Juice, Nikoline and Fanta contained a considerable less amount of pure orange juice so that each individual companies could "enhance" the flavouring, but probably to cut costs by diluting it with water and other substances. The freshly squeezed orange juice under went no pre-processing and therefore held the highest concentration of vitamin C, but also because it was pure orange juice.
