There are many reasons why I feel that I am a good match for the University of Texas. I have dealt with situations and trials that have molded me into someone who will be a successful college student. I grew up in Breckenridge, Texas, a small west Texas City of six thousand people. The experience of growing up in a small town has helped to prepare me for life after high school, and in particular going to college. This experience has led me to be more open-minded and accepting of others. Small town life has been a blessing as well as a challenge in my life. In a town the size of Breckenridge, there is only one school system. As a result I go to school and socialize with a wide va
Playing sports has also helped me to be a good match with the University of Texas. I practiced almost everyday and ended achieving my goal due to my hard work. I took Honors classes in Junior and High School. I feel fortunate that this has prepared me for going to a large school, such as the University of Texas, which has many people from many cultures. Their constant encouragement has made all the difference. I am also a hard worker who knows how to set goals and how to reach them. Unlike a private school where everyone is from the same background, I have friends that come from different financial situations, religious beliefs, family backgrounds, and personalities. Obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout was very difficult. The most important thing that I have learned from living in Breckenridge is that I have to accept people for who they are and not where they come from. My freshman year I wanted to make the varsity tennis team. My classmates are such a diverse and varied group that I have learned how to deal with many types of people. These things have taught me life long lessons that will help whatever I do, or wherever I go. I had to be persistent in my efforts even when I wanted to let it go.
