Lord of the Flies

Human nature is born in all of us, it's constant. It started with the primitive man and Darwin's Theory of Survival of the Fittest. Politics are something that humans created. The whole idea of society has been created by man. The boys in "The Lord of the Flies" have in a sense taken the evolution of man in a backwards manner. They start out civilized English boys and end up turning into the savage primitive man. As hunger and the balance of power changes, their senses become almost inhibited. As soon as the boys hear the conch shell call from Ralph, they come to see who it is. And by Ralph doing this he basically declares himself the leader. Even though there was a formal vote. The boys needed a leader to take order over the group. Ralph assigned jobs for everyone. Which in the sense of politics is a division of labor. There were certain people to hunt, certain people to watch the fire, and certain people to make shelter. These things are basic for survival; shelter, food, and fire to heat the boys and to cook the food. The boys do have two choices of leaders from which to pick from, Ralph and Jack. They vote Ralph as the leader Democratically. The boys at the young age of 6-13 have a sense of how things should be run. Wi

It's hard being the minority in a group. This was obviously learned from their parents. Their home civilization is being destroyed and the isolated boys are totally oblivious to the situation. That only strengthens Jack's ruler ship among the boys. As the boys slowly evolve into a more savage society, there is a larger underlying theme in the novel. With the death of Simon, the boys will never know that the beast is a parachutter. Until Piggy is ultimately killed and at the same time the conch shell is destroyed. He gets caught up in the bloodlust and the egomania. The conch shell was the symbol of the civilized life. A war in which England is a part of. A large reason why Jack becomes the leader is because he makes the boys feel protected from the beast. But the symbolic democratic civilized fire got them rescued as Ralph intended. They have to become adults in a very quick manner. Even though the beast isn't even real at any time in the novel, especially after they think that the beast is a dead parachutter.
